Patriots Make Another Transaction Involving Frequently Moved Veteran

The Patriots appear to be done working with offensive lineman Michael Jordan, and for good this time.

New England announced a shuffle to the practice squad Tuesday, signing defensive lineman Truman Jones and releasing Jordan, who has been involved in a few roster moves over the course of the season.

Jordan initially signed over the offseason, but was released during initial roster cutdowns and hit free agency. The Patriots brought him back via the practice squad, using a pair of standard roster elevations before officially promoting him to the active roster in September. New England made the most out of his time on the active roster, starting him in 11-of-12 games, but eventually made the surprise decision to cut him last week.

Jordan was once again brought back via the practice squad, but after using his final elevation in Sunday’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts, the club (perhaps officially) cut ties on Tuesday.

Layden Robinson’s ability to settle in at left guard on Sunday likely contributed to the move, with Cole Strange expected to provide adequate depth following the bye week. The Patriots also have a few emergency options in Sidy Sow, Tyrese Robinson and Lester Cotton all filling spots on the active roster.

Jones, 24, was originally signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Harvard. He spent all of 2023 and part of 2024 on their practice squad before being released on Nov. 26, 2024.

Jones played in 30 games for Havard and finished with 88 total tackles and 28.5 sacks.
