US relocates 183,000 Afghan citizens in last three years

0

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that over the past three years, 183,000 Afghan citizens, including local collaborators, have been relocated to the United States.

On Monday, December 2, Blinken made this statement during an event honoring organizations and individuals involved in the evacuation and resettlement of Afghan refugees.

He emphasized the importance of the ongoing evacuation and resettlement process from third countries.

According to Blinken, the pace of Afghan relocation has nearly doubled this year compared to last year. He also noted that 3,000 Afghan migrants, including hundreds of Afghan refugees, were relocated to the U.S. through the sponsorship program (private financial sponsorship).

In addition, Shawn Van Diver, the head of the Afghan Refugee Resettlement Support Group “Afghan Evac,” mentioned that the process of transferring and resettling Afghan refugees in the U.S. has cost nearly two billion dollars annually.

Van Diver also highlighted the shift in priorities under the Trump administration, which focused on relocating Afghan partners to the U.S.

According to statistics, over 125,000 U.S. citizens have applied to support Afghan refugees.

Since the return of the Taliban in Afghanistan, thousands of Afghan families have been transferred to the U.S.

The resettlement program has provided much-needed support to Afghan refugees, offering them a chance to start new lives away from the dangers they faced in Afghanistan.

Despite the challenges of relocation, including financial costs and logistical complexities, the U.S. government’s efforts to support Afghan refugees have been vital in providing safety and stability for many families.

However, as the situation in Afghanistan continues to evolve, the long-term challenges of resettlement and integration of Afghan refugees remain.
