EU emphasizes support for people with Disabilities in Afghanistan

0

On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the European Union delegation in Afghanistan emphasized its commitment to continuing support for individuals with disabilities.

On Tuesday, December 3, the EU delegation posted on their X account, confirming their ongoing commitment to providing assistance to people with disabilities in Afghanistan.

The delegation also highlighted the severe challenges faced by people with disabilities, particularly when it comes to healthcare access.

Each year, December 3 is celebrated as International Day of Persons with Disabilities, underscoring the need for support for people with disabilities worldwide.

However, since the Taliban’s return to power, individuals with disabilities, especially former military personnel who have been injured, find themselves in a dire situation. They face increasing hardships, with very little assistance or support available to them.

Over 200,000 persons with disabilities have been registered since the Taliban took control. Yet, they remain in a desperate condition, struggling to survive without proper medical care, financial support, or infrastructure to assist them.

The lack of comprehensive healthcare and rehabilitation services further exacerbates their vulnerabilities.

The international community and organizations like the EU are faced with the critical task of addressing these unmet needs, as the situation for individuals with disabilities continues to worsen in Afghanistan.
