Rating the Rookies: Bears QB Caleb Williams rising, but too late to catch Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix

0

The Offensive Rookie of the Year race is between the Commanders’ Jayden Daniels and the Broncos’ Bo Nix, with Daniels leading decisively. Both have their teams in the playoff field with five weeks left.

All four first-round quarterbacks who are playing look promising. Here’s where they stand after Week 13:

No. 1 overall pick: Bears QB Caleb Williams

Over his last three games, all losses, Williams completed 64.1% of his passes, averaged 275.7 yards and threw five touchdown passes with no interceptions for a 99.2 passer rating. If he averages at least 277.6 yards the rest of the way, he’ll become the first Bears quarterback to throw for 4,000 in a season.

No. 2 overall pick: Commanders QB Jayden Daniels

Daniels has cooled some, but remains the best rookie this season. His 99.4 passer rating leads the class and is 10th in the NFL. He also is fourth in the league in completion percentage at 69.6 and second among quarterbacks with 590 yards rushing.

No. 3 overall pick: Patriots QB Drake Maye

Maye had one of his sharpest games in a 25-24 loss to the Colts. He completed 80% of his passes for 238 yards and a touchdown, threw one interception and posted a 96.9 passer rating.

No. 12 overall pick: Broncos QB Bo Nix

As good as Williams’ last three games were, Nix’s were better. He had a higher completion percentage, more yards, more touchdowns and a better passer rating in that span. He won all three games, too.

Latest on the Bears
Williams owns the team record for passing yards by a rookie already and has an outside shot to be the first Bears quarterback to throw for 4,000 in a season.
After Brown was given the Bears’ interim head coach job and before he flew home to see his family, he met with Eberflus.
One thing’s for certain: Anyone with high aspirations joins the franchise at their own risk.
