ILCA sail advice (renumbering)

I recently purchased an ILCA 7 sail brand new (numbered to my current boat) however i possibly might be getting a new boat soon with a newer number. i just wondered if anyone has any experience re numbering sails and if you can tell after its done. thanks (for reference, the sail still has not been used)
