Shailene Woodley Still Cries Talking About Aaron Rodgers
Shailene Woodley does not usually talk about her relationship with Aaron Rodgers, which ended back in 2022. Previously, Woodley called the period after her breakup with Rodgers “the darkest, hardest time in my life.” Now, the actress has opened up further about the aftermath of their breakup to Outside, explaining that after they called it quits, she fell into a deep depression.
“I haven’t shared much about my relationship with Aaron because it always makes me cry,” Woodley told the magazine, which named her its Outsider of the Year. “It was not right. But it was beautiful.”
Woodley explained that she had “a really awful, traumatic thing happen in early 2022.” While she didn’t say explicitly what it was, that is when she and Rodgers reportedly broke up.
“I felt like I lost my soul, my self, my happiness, my joy. I really understood depression and anxiety and, like, complete soul detachment,” Woodley said, before recounting how she chose to stay in a “toxic situation” out of empathy for another person. “Empathy kind of kept me in this loop of feeling everything for everyone.”
“I knew I was depressed when I looked at a tree and felt nothing,” Woodley said. “That was the lowest low of my life.” The actress shared that her depression lasted for about six months, during which her best friend would distract her with different outdoor activities. “We’d go surf, and for ten minutes that day, I thought life could be okay again. Then the depression would come back and she’d go, ‘We’re volunteering at the horse ranch!’ And we’d find a random fucking horse ranch, and we’d clean up horse shit.”
Who would’ve thought that the cure to a broken heart was time and cleaning up after horses?
