Most popular pet names of 2024 revealed
(NEXSTAR) – So long, Max. There's a new top dog (name).
The longtime favorite has been bumped down the list of most popular pet names again in 2024, according to pet sitting site Rover. The No. 1 male dog name is Charlie for the second year in a row. Male cats, on the other hand, are most likely to be named Milo.
For girls – dogs and cats alike – the top pick this year was Luna.
One girl name seems to have fallen out of favor. Stella ranked among the most popular names for dogs and cats in 2023, but that's no longer the case. Coco replaced it in the top 10 for dogs and Daisy replaced it for cats.

Rover analyzed the millions of names of dogs and cats on its platform to compile the list.
Using its database of pet names, Rover was also able to identify up-and-coming trends before they've made it big. "Dune"-themed names, for example, are taking off. Gurney, Atreides and Chani – all references to the science fiction novel-turned-movie – were all trending names in 2024.
The show "The Bear" was another pop culture influence, according to Rover's findings. Carmy – a nod to the show's lead chef – more than doubled in popularity with dogs and cats.
But no name has seen a quicker rise than Bluey. In the animated kids show, Bluey is a Blue Heeler puppy, but his name has spread far beyond the breed to become the top-trending dog and cat name of the past year, Rover says.
