Kyrie Irving Sued by Health Company After Deadly Wellness Retreat

Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving is the subject of a new lawsuit following an ill-fated wellness retreat earlier this summer.

On Dec. 2, sport psychology firm Elite Mind Solutions filed suit in New York State Supreme Court against Irving, according to The Independent. The legal documents detail how Irving allegedly contracted social worker Natasha McCartney to provide services like guided meditation sessions, ionic foot baths, and "intuitive life readings" to Irving and his family at a five-day retreat in North Dakota from June 28 to July 2.

According to the suit, Irving is now refusing to pay McCartney for her services, and her team is seeking nearly $400,000 in the case. An invoice revealed that she billed Irving $386,660 with $236,660 taken off for a "Kyrie Irving discount" for a total of $150,000.

Things took a turn for the worse during the retreat when one of the attendees unexpectedly died, forcing McCartney to pivot to grief counseling instead.

"The program and retreat came to a stop due to the tragic death of a participant during the event," the lawsuit described. "[McCartney] adapted and provided additional crisis intervention services to ensure the retreat continued smoothly."

McCartney's attorney Michael Faragalla told The Independent that Irving doesn't appear to be moving on the payment, despite him having a years-long pre-existing relationship with McCartney as a therapist

"After making direct contact with Kyrie Irving and his associates, Mr. Irving put it all off on his supporting cast," Faragalla said. "He even failed to pick up the phone and call Natasha McCartney, so he didn’t make any effort to resolve [the situation] prior to the actual filing [of the lawsuit]. Of course, he had an attorney retained, and of course, his manager and his agent got involved and made several insulting offers, but Kyrie Irving himself never personally tried to make amends."

Men's Journal has reached out to Irving for comment.
