One dead after rollover crash in Canaan

CANAAN, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police are investigating a fatal car crash that occurred in Canaan on Friday. The crash took place around 5:50 p.m. on Route 295, west of Stony Kill Road.

The investigation by state police determined that on November 28, a car with three occupants was traveling on Route 295 when the driver lost control due to slippery road conditions. The vehicle reportedly overturned, left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

The collision resulted in the back seat passenger, identified as Sierra Tassone, 20, of Pittsfield, Mass., being ejected from the car. Tassone was tended to on the scene by first responders before being taken to Berkshire Medical Center, where she was later declared dead.

State police said that initially, one of the other occupants allegedly claimed to have been the driver at the time of the collision. Further investigation determined that the third person in the car had actually been driving with a reportedly suspended license.

The driver was issued traffic tickets, while the person who claimed to have been driving was charged with obstruction of governmental administration and sixth-degree conspiracy, both misdemeanors. The crash investigation remains ongoing.
