MLB Insider Shares ‘Best Guess’ For Red Sox Target’s Destination

Signing Teoscar Hernández has been a frequently talked about potential backup plan for the Red Sox should they lose to the Juan Soto sweepstakes.

Well, it sure doesn’t sound like Hernández is bound for Boston.

In a column published Monday, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal revealed his “best guess” for Hernández’s free agency is a reunion with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The veteran MLB insider believes the sides will stay together via a three-year deal worth “more than $60 million.”

But if things don’t work out between Hernández and the reigning World Series champions, a move to Boston still might not be likely. Rosenthal believes the star slugger’s “most logical destination,” if not LA, would be Toronto, where he previously played five-plus seasons and was an All-Star in 2021. The Blue Jays reportedly are also in on Soto and could go all-out to sign Hernández if the former signs elsewhere.

Fortunately for Red Sox fans, Boston seems very motivated to sign an impact bat and won’t retire that initiative even if Soto and Hernández become unavailable. Rosenthal believes a “Plan B” for Boston could be focusing on the infield market, where the club could view Alex Bregman or Willy Adames as promising fits.

Hernández has been open about his admiration for the Red Sox and his eye-popping numbers at Fenway Park speak for themselves. But after earning an All-Star nod and his first World Series ring in his first season with the Dodgers, it would be tough to blame the 32-year-old for wanting to stay in Chavez Ravine.
