West Indies announces squad for CG United ODI Series against Bangladesh
Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced its 15-man squad for the upcoming CG United One Day International (ODI) home series against Bangladesh, dubbed the “West Indies Home for Christmas” series.
The three-match contest will take place at Warner Park in Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis, from December 8–12, 2024.
The squad sees two changes from the team that defeated England 2-1 in the recent “The Rivalry” series.
All-rounder Justin Greaves and wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo have been called up to replace Hayden Walsh Jnr and Jewel Andrew.
Andrew will be travelling to India to participate in a batting camp at the Chennai Academy, where he will focus on improving his technique against spin bowling.
Justin Greaves earned his spot after an impressive run in the CG United Super50 competition, where he made history by scoring three consecutive List A centuries. Greaves also shone in the longer format with a maiden Test century against Bangladesh earlier this year.
Amir Jangoo’s selection comes on the back of a prolific Super50 season, where he emerged as the tournament’s top scorer, amassing 446 runs in just seven innings at an average of 89.20.
Head Coach Daren Sammy emphasized the broader strategy behind the team selection.
“We continue to build towards the main target of the ICC Men’s 50-over World Cup, where we are looking to broaden the pool of players even with the short-term objectives of winning series, especially at home and building momentum on the recent win against England,” Sammy said.
He added that the inclusion of Greaves and Jangoo brings valuable versatility to the squad.
“Greaves is capable of batting anywhere in the top six and brings that genuine all-round ability to the squad, which is welcomed at this stage, while Jangoo’s prowess in the CG United Super50 shows his flexibility to bring another dimension to our batting unit,” Sammy noted.
Shai Hope will lead the team, with Brandon King as his deputy.
