Gloversville Fire Department investigates Sunday morning structure fire
GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Gloversville and Johnstown Fire Departments reported responding to a structure fire at 32 Steeve Avenue Sunday morning around 10:30 a.m. Four residents, two adults and two teenage children, escaped the fire, unharmed.
According to the City of Gloversville Fire Department, upon arriving at the scene, they found an attached garage engulfed in flames, and the fire had spread to the two-story home. The fire department said wind drove the fire from the garage into the attached house.
Both departments requested additional assistance. After additional members arrived, crews began to slow down the spread of the fire.
Once the exterior fire was out, firefighters began tackling the interior of the building. Teams rotated in and out of the building to extinguish the fire in the attic, first and second floors.
The fire department said at one point of the fire, crews had to evacuate the building because of deteriorating conditions. The Tower Ladder was then used.
Around 1 p.m. the fire was out, and no members or civilians were injured, Gloversville Fire Department said. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
Both departments were assisted by the Gloversville Police Department, Gloversville Department of Public Works, Gloversville Water Department, Fulton County Emergency Management, National Grid and Lake Valley Emergency Medical Services. Fire investigators from both departments are investigating the cause, which reportedly is not deemed suspicious.
