Shown above is a panoramic view (3 photographs) of Masatrigo Hill in west-central Spain as observed from the town of Sancti-Spiritu. This nearly perfectly shaped conical formation reaches 577 ft (176 m) above the surrounding La Serena Reservoir (the largest reservoir in Spain and 2nd largest in Europe). Though it looks like a volcano, its geomorphology is erosional rather than volcanic. Masatrigo Hill is preserved at the interior of an incised meander of the Guadalemar River, now submerged below the La Serena Reservoir. Because it has a cover of quartzite, it's highly resistant to erosion. Masatrigo Hill has been declared a National Monument of Extremadura in May 2023.
