Iimura and Dumam-ag to fight for OPBF title
Over the weekend it was announced that the main event of "The 28th WHO'S NEXT DYNAMIC GLOVE on U-NEXT", scheduled for January 18th, will be an OPBF Flyweight title, as Japanese national champion Jukiya Iimura (7-1, 2) [飯村樹輝弥] faces off with unbeaten Filipino Lorenz Dumam-ag (10-0-1, 7), in a mouth watering clash to fill the vacant OPBF belt. The winner will not only have one of the most significant regional titles, but also be well in the mix for a world title, with the last 2 men to hold the belt, Taku Kuwahara and Giemel Magramo both managed to secure world title shots after winning the OPBF title.
The 26 year old Iimura is the Japanese champion, winning the national title in July 2023, and since then he has recorded 3 defenses of the title, including winning a brilliant bout with Yuga Inoue in April. He will come into this knowing that a win will move him towards a potential world title fight and is a great chance to secure a 5th win in a row. Te will also know that the last time he fought a Filipino he was stopped, in 6 rounds by Esneth Domingo back in October 2022, and will be wary of Dumam-ag as a result of that loss.
As for Dumam-ag this will be his first bout outside of the Philippines, and he will be looking to build on a controversial win in May over Ramel Macado Jr, where the time keep, Jordan Dopalco, made a terrible mistake failing to ring the bell to end the opening round after 3 minutes. That led to an extended opening round, with Macado being stopped in the extended time of the round.
At the time of writing this is the only bout confirmed for the show.
