“Told me to focus…”: Mohammed Siraj reveals Jasprit Bumrah’s advice that helped him in Perth Test

0

Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj regained his form in the first Border-Gavaskar series Test against Australia in Perth. Taking a total of 5 wickets, Siraj especially bowled well in the second Australian innings where he picked up 3 big scalps.

The 30-year-old came into the series under pressure after a disappointing display in the 3-match Test series against New Zealand at home. There were even rumours that Siraj would be dropped from the team if he didn’t perform well in Perth. Fortunately, the pacer found his way and got back on track.

Siraj recently credited India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for helping him shift his focus back to enjoying his bowling. He also revealed that his line and length had been affected in the past few months as he had been under pressure.

“I am happy with the way I bowled here and at Perth. Over the last few months, I felt I wasn’t getting enough wickets and, in that desperation, a bit of my line and length was affected,” Siraj told Sportstar.

“I thought deeply about this and I understood that when I enjoy my bowling, then the wickets usually follow. I am in that stage again now,” Siraj added.

The pacer revealed that Bumrah advised him to be consistent instead of worrying about taking wickets ahead of the Test at the Optus Stadium.

“Jassy-bhai (Bumrah) told me to focus on being consistent instead of worrying about wickets. I also had a chat with Bharat Arun (India’s former bowling coach) and he too said the same thing, to focus on my skills instead of worrying about wickets,” Siraj said.

It will be interesting to see if Siraj can continue this impressive bowling form in the second Test against Australia which is set to take place at the Adelaide Oval from December 6.
