  • Lake Effect Snow Warning: This severe weather alert was extended until 7 p.m. Tuesday for Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and McKean counties as heavy lake-effect snow continues. The alert goes until at 7 p.m. Monday for southern Erie County.
  • Winter Weather Advisory: Wyoming County was downgraded from a warning to a less-severe advisory, which runs until 7 p.m. Monday.

This weekend brought Western New York's first major lake-effect snow event of the season. The heaviest snow totals will be found in the areas of southern Erie County and especially higher elevations of Chautauqua County, where several feet of snow have already landed with more on the way.

An additional 4-7 inches of snow is possible overnight in the Southtowns, with even more on the Chautauqua ridge. The Buffalo metro area, however, is only expected to get an inch or two through morning.

Tuesday, snow showers increase later in the day, and temperatures drop later in the week with lows in the teens.
