How Drake Maye Felt About Patriots Opting Against Hail Mary Attempt

Drake Maye has the arm strength to make the necessary throws downfield for the New England Patriots.

So the decision to attempt a 68-yard field goal instead of a Hail Mary at the end of regulation was a bit puzzling in New England’s 25-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Maye felt ready to throw but backed the decision in favor of the special teams unit despite Joey Syle missing the kick.

“I think it’s up to the coaching,” Maye told reporters, per team-provided transcript. “I’m here to support what coach Mayo and the special teams guys and what Joey thinks. So I think whether it’s that or the Hail Mary, either one.”

Maye finished the afternoon 24-for-30 through the air for 238 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The Patriots quarterback also ripped off a 41-yard scramble on the ground in the first half.

Maye and the Patriots return to action in Week 15 against the Arizona Cardinals.
