'No I in team': CNN host cracks up as Republican vows compromise in Congress
A CNN host cracked up Sunday as a Republican congressman claimed his colleagues would compromise in the House to deal with a razor-thin majority.
Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) was claiming the notoriously factious caucus would pull together to make sure it pushes through legislation.
“There’s no I in team,” he told Kasie Hunt on State of the Union.
Congress is expected to convene with a 219-215 Republican majority — a tiny number which will mean any absences or disagreements could halt legislation.
And the Republicans — particularly the right-wing Freedom Caucus — have been notorious for in-party fighting, particularly over the agenda of House Speaker Mike Johnson.
“What do you say to all of your Republican colleagues, any one of whom could decide to basically grind the gears of government to a halt, about what they should do with this power?” Hunt asked.
Lawler answered, “The American people elected Donald Trump and majorities in both the House and the Senate.
“... I think the key to remember, though, is there's no I in team. We all got elected individually, yes, but we got elected to serve as a Republican majority and work to get things done on behalf of the American people.”

Lawler continued, “There's not going to be a lot of room for error here especially in the early months with three members down. so we're going to be at 217 most likely, or 218. And we'll need every vote to pass legislation, which means we’ve got to compromise and work together.
“We're not going to get everything we want. Anybody who's ever been married understands the art of compromise but, you know, we’ve got to work together for the American people.”
That's when hunt burst out laughing.
“The art of compromise. Indeed,” she said.
“Can you imagine having 400 or 218 people that you actually have to get on the same page? It's going to be dicey.”
