‘Mahi bhai has supported me from start’: Deepak Chahar thanks Chennai Super Kings for bidding till Rs 90000000

New Delhi: Former Chennai Super Kings pacer Deepak Chahar revealed that he wanted to return to the franchise due to the support he had received from MS Dhoni. However, he realized it would be challenging as there was very little money left in the purse when his name came up at the auction. As a result, Chahar ended up switching franchises, moving to the Mumbai Indians.

Deepak Chahar, who joined Chennai Super Kings six years ago, has been a key figure in the team’s bowling attack, known for his ability to deliver fiery spells in the powerplay overs.

Over his 76 games for Chennai Super Kings, Deepak Chahar took as many wickets, solidifying his reputation as one of the most reliable pacers in the IPL, particularly for breakthroughs during the powerplay.

“Mahi bhai has supported me from the start, that’s why I wanted to come here. But my name came on the second day at the auction, so I had a fair idea that it would be difficult for me to get back to CSK. They had a low purse, but still bid till INR 9 crore despite a purse of INR 13 crore,” Chahar said while speaking on Jatin Sapru’s YouTube channel.

“I had made up my mind that it would be difficult. Last year, my name came first, that’s why it was easier to get back to CSK,” Chahar added.

Having set his base price at Rs 2 crore, Deepak Chahar attracted bids from Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings. Punjab withdrew at Rs 7.5 crore, while Chennai entered the fray at Rs 8 crore. Ultimately, Mumbai secured him for Rs 9.25 crore. Chahar had to miss the entire IPL 2022 season due to a back injury, despite Chennai purchasing him for a hefty Rs 14 crore, thus missing out on his services.
