‘Still bid till 9 crore…’: Former Chennai Super Kings pacer thanks franchise for Bidding on him
Former Chennai super Kings pacer Deepak Chahar has shared his idea of returning to the franchise because of the support he had received from MS Dhoni, but realised it was tough with small purse left when his name came up in the auction.
Deepak joined Chennai six years ago and with his ability to delivery powerful spells in powerplay overs, has been a necessary part of the team’s bowling attack.
Over 76 games for Chennai, Deepak picked up as many wickets as he could, solidifying his reputation as one of the most reliable pacers in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“Mahi bhai has supported me from the start, that’s why I wanted to come here. But my name came on the second day at the auction, so I had a fair idea that it would be difficult for me to get back to CSK. They had a low purse, but still bid till INR 9 crore despite a purse of INR 13 crore,” Chahar said while speaking on Jatin Sapru’s YouTube channel.
“I had made up my mind that it would be difficult. Last year, my name came first, that’s why it was easier to get back to CSK,” he added.
As his base price was at Rs. 2 crore, Mumbai began their bid, where Punjab soon stepped in. Chennai entered later on but pulled away shortly. Deepak was eventually picked by Mumbai at Rs. 9.25 crore.
