Match Report: Sutton United 2-0 AFC Fylde

0

It was defeat in the capital for AFC Fylde who fell to a 2-0 defeat away at Sutton United on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Ashley Nadesan and Will Davies proved the difference as Kevin Phillips’ side couldn’t bounce back from the midweek defeat to Hartlepool.

It was a really strong first half performance from the Coasters who put some relentless pressure at times on the Sutton defence.

Kevin Phillips’ side earned a corner in the first minute as McFayden put a heap of pressure on Sutton’s full back to win an early set-piece.

With eight minutes gone, the game sparked some controversy after Danny Ormerod was bearing down on goal before being dragged to the floor by Sutton defender Tyler French. However, the Sutton skipper escaped with a yellow card.

From the resulting free-kick, Nick Haughton whipped an effort which was flying towards the top corner, only to be stopped by a strong hand from Jack Sims.

With a quarter of an hour gone, Ormerod, who returned from his loan spell at Chorley earlier this week, almost continued his recent form as he rose highest to meet Tyler Roberts’ cross but his header narrowly dropped the wrong side of the post.

Just before the half hour mark, Ben Winterbottom was called into action to deny Jeremy Sivi who got in behind Max Bardell, but the Brentford loanee got down well to make the save.

Haughton went close again before the half time break, seeing another free kick tipped over by Sims as both sides went into the break with the deadlock unbroken.

The second half started in rapid fashion as there was chances within the opening five minutes for both Haughton and Ethan Mitchell who both saw their respective efforts blocked.

But just after the hour mark, Sutton found the goal they had been threatening as Ashley Nadesan shot on the half volley and found the far corner to open the scoring.

Moments later, it was two for the hosts as Nadesan got the ball wide and squared it for Will Davies to convert and double Sutton’s advantage.

With ten minutes to go, Winterbottom made a good save to prevent a third as he got down to deny Josh Coley.

But that was the end of the action as Fylde slipped to a defeat in South London.
