Lafayette salon damaged by fire, authorities say
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- The inside of a salon was damaged by a fire that is believed to involve small appliances that were on decorative stands, according to the Lafayette Fire Department.
According to a news release, the fire was discovered by an employee around 9:30 a.m. this morning.
"When the employee arrived this morning, she opened the door and smoke discharged out of the salon," authorities said.
Responding firefighters found a fire smoldering in the lobby area. Authorities said the inside of the business sustained heavy smoke damage and moderate fire damage in the waiting area.
The business, which is located in the 1100 block of Coolidge Street, was not occupied when the fire first started. Employees left the salon around 3 p.m. Friday, authorities said.
Fire officials said the fire started in the salon's waiting area and involved "small applicants on decorative stands."
"Due to a lack of sufficient oxygen, the fire began to smolder. It basically self-extinguished," authorities said.
The fire remains under investigation.
