Tottenham vs Fulham: Head-to-head record

More often than not, Tottenham vs Fulham is a tightly contested affair. Six of the last ten matches ended (in regular time) with a draw or a win by a one-goal margin.

Last season there was a shift in the match-up as Fulham won both of their home fixtures, knocking Tottenham out of the Carabao Cup in the second round on penalties as well as securing a thumping 3-0 win in the Premier League.

Spurs had previously last lost at Craven Cottage in 2011 with Fulham only managing one win against Tottenham between then and last season (helped by Fulham playing intermittently in the Championship).

Spurs suffered two different kinds of losses last season

Tottenham’s losses to Fulham last season were two very different matches. The Carabao Cup fixture was caveated by Ange Postecoglou heavily rotating for his first cup fixture. A decision which saw Spurs exit the cup far earlier than they would have liked.

The starting XI featured seven players who are no longer at the club and was more of an indicator of who would have a future under Postecoglou than anything else.

However, the Premier League fixture at Fulham was perhaps the first demonstration of Tottenham rueing missed chances in combination with poor defending from a counter, corner and failing to track runners into the box.

Chances fell to Son Heung-min, James Maddison and Timo Werner, but none were able to convert. The 3-0 loss ended up being tied as the 2nd biggest defeat Spurs suffered all of last season.

Fulham are a threat under Marco Silva

Since returning to the Premier League under Marco Silva, Fulham have become a gradually progressing force. They finished 10th in 2023 and 13th last season. Fulham are currently in 9th place in the Premier League table, only one point behind Tottenham.

Furthermore, Fulham currently sit 7th in Opta’s Expected Points Table and were previously 2nd on Understats Expected Points Table at the end of October as well.

Fulham’s 18.2 Premier League Expected Goals is significantly lower than Tottenham’s 24.2, but Fulham have managed to consistently create attacking opportunities in the opponents’ box. With Tottenham still giving up over 1 xG per game on average, Marco Silva’s side certainly carries an attacking threat.
