Ram raiders drive Range Rover into shop and flee with bags full of jewellery
Ram raiders smashed through the doors of a jewellers and plundered luxury items worth tens of thousands of pounds in a robbery on the Eve of Black Friday.
The thieves rammed Fleur jewellers in Walton-on-Thames High Street in a silver Range Rover before plundering shelves and escaping in a getaway car parked nearby.
The raid on independent jewellers left the shop facade smashed with broken glass strewn across the floor.
A witness said there was a ‘massive crash’ and saw two hooded men running out with a bags in their hand before jumping into a getaway car in a ‘professional job’
Craig Williamson, 72, told Metro: ‘I heard a massive crash then I saw a car hanging out of the shop. At first I thought it was an accident.
‘But then two boys came running out with two holdalls. ‘
“It was crazy it was madness. They were both wearing hooded jackets. They jumped in a white getaway car.
‘One in the front one in the back. It was a professional job they were in and out in under two minutes. They drive off fast in the car.’
The partner of the owner of Fleur jewellers told Metro that no one had been injured in the raid as he helped clear the debris from the wrecked shop.
He said: ‘My wife owns it, everyone is fine we need some time to clear up.’
Locals said masked men stormed the shop before running from the shop with bags full of jewellery.
The jewellers is a well loved local independent business and customers took to social media to show their shock and support.
Tony Pegler, the shop’s window cleaner, told Metro: ‘I’m so sorry to hear about what happened to the shop.
‘It’s hard enough to run a high street shop in this day and age.
‘The lady who runs it is really nice.’
One wrote: ‘This is awful. I feel very sad for the lady whose shop it is.’
Nic Contu, who owns a luxury jewellers just yards from the shop that was robbed, told Metro that he feared he would also become a target and called for police to hunt down the villains.
He said: ‘This is very worrying, I have some valuable stuff here and this is robbery is very close to me. The police need to quickly track down these robbers.’
Another told Metro at the scene: ‘They are really nice people and this is a very close knit community.
‘I got my engagement ring from there. I can’t believe they have done this. It’s awful and very dangerous.’
Police were last night examining the Range Rover and trawling for CCTV footage of the raid.
A police cordon remains around the shop.
Fleur specialises in wedding and engagement rings.
The thieves targeted more expensive items in glass cabinets in the centre of the shop.
Surrey Police have been contacted for further comment.
