‘Karma is a…’: Bengaluru woman says flatmates rejected her for being ‘too young’ during house hunt, WATCH viral video

A Bengaluru woman’s house-hunting journey has captured attention online after she shared her unusual experience of being rejected by flatmates because of her age. In a video posted on X, 20-year-old Naina recounted how she missed out on a “beautiful” apartment in Domlur despite her best efforts to convince the existing tenants that she would make an ideal housemate. Starting the video with humor, Naina reflected on her past judgments about people in their late 20s, remarking, “Karma is a b****.” She explained that after weeks of searching, she found an apartment she loved and began discussing arrangements with the current tenants while visiting Pondicherry. However, upon returning to Bengaluru and visiting the apartment in person, she was informed that her age was an issue.

“They said, ‘We’re not comfortable with you living here because you’re only 20,’” Naina shared. Determined to make her case, she even went as far as creating a PowerPoint presentation to highlight her strengths as a potential flatmate.

“I was hunting for a flat and I found this really pretty house in Domlur and I was about to shift. Everything was going well. I was in Pondicherry, and I was constantly texting the flatmates that I will check it out as soon as I come back. And I visited the house yesterday, and I got rejected. Why? Because, I am 20,” she said.

Naina also added that she was “hell-bent” on “proving” to her flatmates that she is “probably the best flatmate”. “I was acting non-chalant,” she said, explaining that she told them that she won’t interfere and doesn’t party, smoke or drink. “But it fell through,” she sighed.

The PowerPoint Pitch

In her video, Naina shared the creative presentation she prepared to win over potential flatmates. The slides highlighted her traits, such as being an early riser, a non-smoker, a non-drinker, and someone who keeps her living space clean due to working remotely. She assured the tenants she wouldn’t be intrusive, saying, “I’m not intimidating. If you want your own space, that’s fine too.”

Her story sparked diverse reactions on social media. While some users teased her about being too young or questioned her frequent apartment hunts, others admired her confidence and humor. One user remarked, “I’m 25, and I could learn so much from you. I’d never be able to ask for help like this. Kudos. Hope you find your home soon.”

Naina also used the video to reflect on her past judgments about millennials, apologizing for mocking them. She admitted, “I now know the feeling of being judged just because of my age. I never thought I’d be in this situation.”
