There are some really cute winter themed monikers

But if you’re struggling to come up with the perfect moniker for your new tot, fear not as experts have scoured the latest data to compile a list of the top 10 seasonal baby names.

The team at QR Code Generator used Office of National Statistics info to put together the list of girls‘ names – and one has a cute Scottish connection.

A spokeswoman at QRFY said: “Choosing a name for your new baby is one of the most precious and memorable experiences in the world.

“A seasonal name is truly unforgettable, especially when it comes to the raw beauty, peace and stunning landscapes of winter.

“Naming your precious bundle after the beautiful winter season in which they were born will constantly evoke magical memories of welcoming new life into the world”.

Coming in at number one for girls is Ivy. There were more than 2,000 baby girls given the botanical name in 2022 – higher than any other winter-themed title on the list.

Ivy evokes courage and endurance – a beautiful, evergreen plant that lasts all through winter. The greenery is frequently found wound into wreaths and other festive decorations.

Coming in at number two is Aurora, with 972 baby girls born with the name in 2022.

It takes its roots from the beautiful Northern Lights phenomenon – also known as the Aurora Borealis – that fill the skies in countries like Iceland and Scotland with a dancing array of colours.

Aurora also comes from the Latin ‘dawn’ and evokes the beauty of winter skies.

Third on the ranking is Holly, with more than 400 girls taking the title.

Named after a beautiful and bold evergreen plant that is particularly striking in winter, Holly with its deep green spiky leaves and vibrant red berries is the perfect representation of festive colours.

Alba is fourth on the list of most popular winter-inspired baby names.

From the Latin meaning “white” a it’s the perfect winter name, conjuring images of sparkling snow.

But it is, of course, also the Gaelic word for Scotland – so is the perfect choice for a Scots tot born at this time of year.

Coming in at number five is Lucia.  A name which comes from the Latin for ‘light’, it’s chosen as babies are a beautiful light in the darkness of the season.

Number six on the list is a very literal interpretation of the season – Winter. You can’t get a more classic moniker for the time of year.

Eira is seven on the list taking its meaning from the Welsh word for snow while eight is Ana, inspired by the character from classic Disney animation Frozen.

Number nine is Bianca. While many may immediately think of Patsy Palmer’s character in Eastenders, the name actually comes from the Italian word for white.

Finally, number 10 on the list is Celeste taken from the Latin for heavenly. This brings to mind the celebration of the coming of Christ, celebrated in December.
