Tottenham send scouts to watch EFL starlet likened to Roy Keane

0

Tottenham Hotspur’s scouts made the trip across to London to watch one EFL starlet in action this weekend ahead of a potential January move.

17-year-old turning heads in the Championship

Tottenham have not been shy of shopping from the EFL over the last couple of years, securing the likes of Ashely Phillips and Archie Gray from the second tier.

It has now been revealed by TBR Football that another young Championship midfielder has caught their attention.

The player in question is Millwall starlet Chris Rigg, who has established himself as a mainstay in the Lions midfielder this season despite being just 17 years of age.

Tottenham scouts watched Chris Rigg in action

The report says that Spurs sent representatives to the Den this weekend to watch Rigg in action against Sunderland on Saturday.

However, it is revealed that Tottenham were not the only ones to do so as their scouts were joined by ones from Arsenal, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Brentford.

It looks like the teenager could soon be the subject of a transfer battle, which is not been surprising as he has been tipped to reach the very top of the game.

In fact, Fotmob have quoted Tony Mowbray as saying Rigg possesses a “Roy Keane-esque type of nastiness” that makes him a nightmare to play against.

Tottenham could have an advantage in Chris Rigg race

Tottenham have a good relationship with Millwall, having loaned Japhet Tanganga to the club last season and then facilitating his permanent move to the club in the summer by terminating his contract.

They could use that relationship to their advantage and steal a march on their rivals in the race for Rigg.

Additionally, the midfielder and his entourage will know that in Ange Postecoglou, Spurs have a manager who is happy to give opportunities to young players.
