Former Radio 1 and Radio 2 presenters and staff gathered in London to honour their late friend and colleague Steve Wright.

It was a low-key affair with 30 guests who best knew him, attending the private lunch earlier this month.

The exclusive guest list included Chris Moyles, Simon Bates, Mark Goodier, Paul Gambaccini, Mike Read, Bob Harris and Andy Peebles amongst many others.

During the lunch, which had been organised by Shaun Tilley, tributes were paid by some of his closest colleagues including his best friend and long-time collaborator, Gavin McCoy, who spoke about Steve and the laughter they had shared over the decades.

Steve passed away this year after more than 50 years in radio with over 40 years at the BBC in prime-time, on two national networks.

He pioneered the ‘zoo’ format in the early 80s in the UK, featuring multiple comedy characters, in what was to become his signature style – his was a programme of the time and a genre that went on to influence countless other broadcasters.

Former Managing Editor of Radio 1, Paul Robinson, recalled how Steve always had exceptionally high listening figures throughout his career. Steve was remembered by his colleagues for his creativity, unique style, stand-out personality and especially for his humour, kindness and warmth.
