The modern sorting plant of Poczta Polska has recorded a significant increase in the number of parcels.

The end of the year is a busy time for the logistics industry. From Black Week, or attractive discounts on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, through St. Nicholas Day, to Christmas, customers send about 50 % more parcels than usual. To deliver such a large number of parcels, sorting plants not only increase employment, but also extend working hours. Equipped with the most modern machines with a capacity of up to 18,000 parcels per hour, the Poczta Polska sorting plant located in Ciemne near Warsaw is working at full speed, ensuring safe and timely deliveries not only to Warsaw residents, but also to large corporations.

Poczta Polska is one of the largest operators in the country. The company has a collection network of about 20 thousand points, including over 1300 parcel machines, 7500 branches and several thousand partner points – these include Żabka, ABC, Lewiatan, Groszek, Arhelan, Delikatesy Centrum stores. The operator’s potential is also reflected in a network of almost 30 sorting plants and a modern fleet of over 5 thousand cars. This allows for the timely delivery of over 4 million parcels per day and servicing over 15 million addresses throughout Poland.

The dispatch and distribution hub (WER) in Ciemne near Warsaw is one of the most modern facilities of this type in Poland. WER Ciemne has a total of 28,000 m2 of operational and storage hall, 33 docks, 60 courier gates and 74 spaces for vehicles.

Every day, 250 employees coordinate the loading and unloading of hundreds of trucks – the sorting plant can handle almost 80 vehicles at a time. The sorting plant has been equipped with a modern scale conveyor for non-standard shipments, almost 50 meters long, enabling sorting into 24 directions in the country and 124 courier regions.

“We are ready for the parcel peak. It is thanks to the investment in Ciemne that we can safely and on time deliver parcels in the Warsaw metropolitan area, but also sort parcels for the entire country. This complex was built literally from scratch in just a dozen or so months and is currently one of our most modern facilities of this type,” says Sławomir Żurawski, vice president of Poczta Polska for operations and logistics.

Poczta Polska courier deliveries are handled by Pocztex. The offer is tailored to both individual and e-commerce customers. Parcels handled by Poczta Polska can be delivered by a courier, but customers can also collect them themselves at post offices, partner points and parcel machines located at selected post offices, shopping centers, transport hubs, on the premises of housing cooperatives and communities, and at Biedronka stores.

To make it easier for customers to send, receive and track parcels, Poczta Polska has made the Pocztex Mobile application completely free.
