Turkey detains 128 undocumented migrants, including 62 children from Afghanistan and Iran

The Turkish Coast Guard has announced the identification and detention of 128 undocumented migrants, including 62 children, who are citizens of Afghanistan and Iran, in the Çanakkale region.

Turkish media reports state that these migrants were transferred to the “Foreigners’ Removal Center” in the Ayvacık area.

According to the Coast Guard, approximately 35 of these migrants, including 17 children, were detained in the Kışkı region, while 57 others were apprehended in two separate operations in the open sea near Ayvacık.

This comes amid a rise in search operations targeting Afghan migrants in recent months.

Last week, Turkish police also reported the detention of 59 undocumented Afghan migrants in the Gübayzid region.

According to official statistics, more than 300,000 Afghan migrants currently live in Turkey.

Previously, Turkish authorities have stated that the reason for the detentions is the lack of official residence documents.

The ongoing crackdown on undocumented Afghan migrants in Turkey reflects the country’s increased efforts to control illegal migration and manage the large refugee population.

While this move is framed as an attempt to enforce immigration laws, it has raised concerns about the treatment of vulnerable migrants and the need for clear policies to ensure their rights and protection.
