Apple Watch charger urgently recalled over fears they could ‘catch fire and explode’ as users told to check model number

APPLE Watch users have been warned of a particular charger urgently recalled over risks it may catch fire.

The warning was sent out after the popular charger was pulled from the shelves with users told to check model numbers.

The faulty power bank features the model number BPD005

Accessory maker Belkin announced the global recall of its BoostCharge Pro Fast Wireless Charger for Apple Watch + Power Bank 10K, which was also sold in the Apple Store.

The faulty power bank features the model number BPD005, which can be found on the back.

It was released in May 2023.

The company discovered a manufacturing defect that can cause the lithium cell to overheat, which creates a fire risk to users.

A Belkin spokesperson said: “Place your BPD005 in a safe, dry location away from anything flammable or anything that can damage the power bank.

“Do not place your power bank into any trash or recycling bins.

“If you have purchased the Belkin BoostCharge Pro Fast Wireless Charger for Apple Watch + Power Bank 10K, BPD005, it is important that you immediately stop using it, disconnect it from any power supply or other products, and contact us for further instructions.

“No injuries have been reported, and no other Belkin wireless chargers or any other Belkin products are affected by this recall.”

Belkin removed the charger from its website, but third-party sites still show it.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has not made an official announcement yet.

Belkin confirmed costumers who bought the faulty accessory would be refunded.

The Belkin BoostCharge ProFast Wireless Charger for Apple Watch + Power Bank 10K was retailing for $159, or £125.
