Humane Society of Louisiana offers reward for safe return of two kittens
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- The Humane Society of Louisiana (HSLA) is offering a $250 reward for the safe return of two missing kittens.
According to a news release from HSLA, the kittens were picked up by a Lafayette animal shelter on Oct. 22 for a scheduled spay/neuter. They were expected to be returned to their owner, Broussard resident Melinda Mcjimsey, on Oct. 29.
The kittens were not returned to their designated return site. Instead, a Lafayette Animal Control officer released the kittens to a different location, next to the coulee and canefield on Marteau Road in Broussard.
"When asked where the kittens were dropped off, the officer initially maintained that he had returned them to the proper address. When confronted with surveillance cameras showing he never returned to the site, he admitted dropping them off at a nearby canefield," HSLA said in the news release.
"He did not explain the reason for this. According to Lafayette Animal Control, the officer was reprimanded per the civil service code," the news release continued.
Since then, attempts have been made to locate and trap the kittens humanely but with no success.
Both kittens are about three months old. One is grey and the other is black.
HSLA Director Jeff Dorson said the humane society remains hopeful that the kittens can be located and returned.
"We're rightfully worried they were dropped to a location without access to regular food or water. It would be a special gift in time for the holidays if we could facilitate the return of the two dark-colored kittens," Dorson said.
To help return the kittens, HSLA is offering the $250 reward for the safe return or photographic evidence (must be time-stamped) of the kittens' location.
Those with information can contact Mcjimsey at 337-356-8359 or the Humane Society at 1-888-6-(HUMANE) (486-263).
