Over $10m going to victim and survivor agencies in Kansas

0

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Governor Laura Kelly announced more than $10 million would go towards various crime victim and survivor programs Wednesday.

In total, $10,289,285 will be awarded to 65 agencies with federal funding coming from the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Victim Assistance grant program. Of the agencies selected, the Kansas Department of Corrections will see the largest dollar amount with $856,094, according to a press release from the Office of the Governor on Nov. 27.

“These services are vital to the well-being of Kansans impacted by crime,” Kelly said. “This funding gives organizations the ability to continue providing the assistance crime victims and survivors deserve as they stabilize their lives, navigate the criminal justice system, and regain a sense of safety and security.”

VOCA works to help organizations provide criminal justice support, shelter, transportation and traditional housing, according to the Office of the Governor.
