House cat, bobcat have standoff in Cowley County

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (KSNW) -- A house cat recently had a standoff with a wild bobcat in Cowley County.

A viewer in Arkansas City sent us the video above from outside their front door after a close encounter with the animal. In it, you can see the bobcat approach the door. The viewer who sent the video to KSN writes that their house cat is an indoor/outdoor cat that often goes hunting and leaves catches at the front door.

The viewer says the bobcat has visited her house twice in the past 3 days, but they have seen bobcats pass by several times over the years.

According to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, bobcats are native to the state and are common, but they are rarely seen. It is furharvesting season in Kansas until Feb. 28.

Wildlife officials say Bobcats, which are included on the list of animals that can be hunted for their fur in Kansas, have the highest individual pelt value of any furbearer in the state.
