Hamilton's Latest Watch Is a Slim, Digital Stunner That's Retro Fantastic

0

The Hamilton PSR 74 looks like something created by someone imagining what the future might look like back in the 1970s, which is what makes it such a unique piece. Best known for their variety of well-priced, well-made, straightforward watches, this latest release feels like it couldn’t be further away from the American-turned-Swiss brand’s classic look, and yet, it still, somehow, manages to fit, thanks to the company’s ability to continuously create timelessness within their timekeeping pieces.

That’s because Hamilton is actually responsible for the world’s first digital wristwatch—the Hamilton Pulsar. Announced in 1970 and released in 1972, Hamilton’s Pulsar P1 brought the watch world into the digital age and was followed by a number of other successful releases, including 1974’s Pulsar Cushion, which serves as direct inspiration for the Hamilton PSR 74.

The PSR 74 mixes that vintage style alongside innovation. The designers opted to maintain the original typeface for the display numbers seen on the 1970s Pulsar, while the 31mm cushion case remains as bold as ever, creating a timepiece that will immediately impress fans of retro styling. The watch and its matching bracelet come in either stainless steel or gold PVD-coated models. The bracelets feature a butterfly buckle and taper down effect. Features wise, it has push buttons on either side of the case, allowing for simultaneous viewing of the date and time, as well as the ability to be set for either 24-hour or 12-hour clock conventions.

On top of the retro design and features, the Hamilton PSR 74 still manages to do what all of its other watches do, that is offer quality at a certain amount of durability at a reasonable price. The watch sports a H-40e quartz movement and is water resistant up to 100 meters. It’s priced at $745 for the silver, $845 for the gold.
