Carencro man charged with attempted murder in alleged road rage shooting
CARENCRO, La. (KLFY) -- A Carencro man was arrested in connection with a shooting Monday that police are calling a road rage incident.
Derrick Jones, 42, of Carencro, is charged with one count of attempted second degree murder.
Carencro Police responded shortly after 11 a.m. Monday to a call of shots fired on Guilbeau Road in Carencro.
Officers found a vehicle in the ditch in the 500 block of Guilbeau Road, and then found the driver of the vehicle walking a block away.
Detectives said that two drivers were involved in an apparent road rage altercation. The driver of one of the vehicles, Jones, exited his vehicle and fired multiple shots at the victim. The victim began backing away from the suspect and drove off the road, striking a tree and coming to rest in the ditch.
Authorities said Jones fled from the scene and was located by detectives a short time later. The victim in the case was not injured. The investigation is ongoing.
Jones has been booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on $100,000 bond.
