Suspected bomber on FBI's 'most wanted terrorist' list finally arrested decades later

A suspected bomber labeled as one of the FBI’s “most wanted terrorists” for nearly two decades has been arrested in the United Kingdom, the agency announced Thursday.

Daniel Andreas San Diego, 46, was captured Monday "'at a property in a rural area next to woodland’ in the Conwy area of north Wales by specialist officers from the national extradition unit of the National Crime Agency (NCA),” the Guardian reported, citing an agency spokesperson. The publication added that the arrest of San Diego was requested by U.S. authorities, who will seek to extradite the U.S. citizen to face charges.

“Daniel San Diego’s arrest after more than 20 years as a fugitive for two bombings in the San Francisco area shows that no matter how long it takes, the FBI will find you and hold you accountable,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a statement Thursday. “There’s a right way and a wrong way to express your views in our country, and turning to violence and destruction of property is not the right way.”

San Diego was considered to be “armed and dangerous,” according to his FBI wanted poster, which was offering a $250,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

His indictment dates to 2004, about a year after authorities said he was involved in two bomb explosions in August 2003 on the campus of a biotechnology corporation in Emeryville. That was followed by a third bomb incident in September 2003 that was “strapped with nails” and exploded at a nutritional products corporation in Pleasanton.
