11/26/2024: Rain, some ice to kick off Thursday

0

The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:

Widespread rain pushing through this morning - most are in the mid to upper 30's, so its cold and damp but not overly slippery.

Up north, however, ground temperatures are hovering around freezing. This means that some ice is possible - take it slow on the roads!

A winter Weather Advisory is up for all of Warren, Washington, Bennington, and Hamilton counties, as well as the northern half of Saratoga County. Above 1,000 ft elevation, up to a tenth of an inch of ice is possible.

Thankfully, we will dry out after lunchtime and there may even be a few breaks of sun this afternoon. As winds shift, temperatures will rise into the upper 40's to right around 50 degrees in some spots.

Tomorrow looks like a good day to hit the roads across the vast majority of the Northeast if you plan to travel ahead of the big Thanksgiving holiday. Only the Tug Hill Plateau and western Adirondacks will see active weather, on account of lake effect snow blowing off of Lake Ontario.

Turkey Day itself is a bit of a different story... A bigger storm system will move into the region by daybreak Thursday. Expect mainly snow in the hills and mountains, with higher totals in the higher terrain. The valleys may see a bit of snow if temperatures can get cool enough in the morning - but totals will be far lower and rain will eventually take over.

Cool for Black Friday with a few flurries. Lake effect snow is possible north and west for Saturday, while the rest of us ger wind and partly sunny skies.

Then we're chilly for Sunday, followed by a potential for more snow showers on Monday.
