China invites Taliban to attend next regional Foreign Minister’s meeting

China’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Yue Xiaoyong, invited Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban, to attend the upcoming meeting of foreign ministers from neighboring countries.

Zia Ahmad Takal, the Deputy Spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced this on Monday, November 25, through a statement on the social media platform X.

According to Takal, Yue Xiaoyong emphasized the importance of Muttaqi’s participation in future meetings of foreign ministers from neighboring countries.

The statement highlighted that the two sides discussed enhancing bilateral relations between the Taliban and China, as well as cooperation in economic and regional matters.

Muttaqi, in turn, positively assessed the increase in trade between the Taliban and China, emphasizing its significance.

Although China does not officially recognize the Taliban government, it has established good relations with the group over the past three years.

The invitation from China underscores Beijing’s strategic interest in maintaining stable ties with the Taliban, reflecting its broader goals for regional stability and economic cooperation.

As Afghanistan remains a focal point for geopolitical tensions, China’s diplomatic outreach signals its intention to play a key role in shaping the region’s future dynamics while addressing security and economic concerns.
