How ‘nifty’ hidden button in iconic British motor can boost your boot space – WITHOUT having to fold seats down

AN ICONIC British hatchback has a hidden button to boost boot space, a motoring expert has revealed.

The handy feature allows drivers to carry bulkier items without compromising on room for passengers.

Petrolhead Luke Shipp revealed the secret trick on his YouTube channel.

He demonstrated how to expand the boot on his third-generation Mini Cooper.

The third-generation tag applies to Mini models made between about 2014 and this year.

The brand is known for its small motors but has long managed to produce four-seater cars with limited real estate.

However, this has meant some reduction in storage to fit those extra two seats.

It seems engineers at Mini are keen to resolve this, with drivers able to make use of a hidden button to make the most of the space.

Luke explained: “If you have a car full of people and are struggling to carry all of their bags, you can alter the rear seat angle using these nifty little brackets.

“All you need to do is drop the seats forward, swing them up 90 degrees, and pop the seat back.

“It doesn’t look like a lot, but a couple of inches can make all the difference.

“Now, you’ve probably seen the little grey seats in the boot, but unless you’ve dropped the seats forward, you wouldn’t know what they were for.

“Now you do.”

That means you can still carry the full complement of passengers, while also having a bit of extra room in the back.

If you want to try it out for yourself, you can pick up a second-hand, third-gen Mini for as little as £3,000.

And if you’re willing to pay closer to £20,000 you can get them with under 1,000 miles on the odometer.
