92 Iran-backed militants killed in Syria within a week

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 145 people were killed in Syria over the past week.

According to the report, 92 of those killed were militants affiliated with the Islamic Republic, who killed in Israeli airstrikes.

A senior U.S. defense official stated that a recent Israeli airstrike in Syria killed Ali Musa Daqduq, a senior Hezbollah commander who played a role in orchestrating one of the most complex attacks on U.S. forces during the Iraq War.

Ali Musa Daqduq was captured by U.S. forces following attacks in 2007 that resulted in the deaths of five U.S. soldiers.

However, he was later released by Iraqi authorities. Daqduq was held by U.S. forces in Iraq for several years but was handed over to Iraqi authorities in December 2011 when the U.S. military mission ended.

Iraqi officials assured their American counterparts that Daqduq would be prosecuted. However, within months, he was released, sparking outrage among U.S. officials and policymakers.

Over the years, Israel has repeatedly targeted positions of groups allied with the Islamic Republic in Syria.

These attacks are part of Israel’s broader strategy to counter Iranian influence in the region.

The ongoing Israeli airstrikes on Iranian-backed groups in Syria highlight the persistent instability in the region and the challenges of balancing geopolitical interests.

The killing of Ali Musa Daqduq underscores the long-standing tension between the U.S., Israel, and Iranian proxies, which continues to shape the security landscape in the Middle East. Efforts to address these conflicts remain critical to achieving lasting peace in the region.
