Gaetz joins Cameo after withdrawing from AG consideration

0

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) joined Cameo just a day after withdrawing from consideration for attorney general and announcing that he will not return to Congress for its next session.

Gaetz's newly created Cameo account comes as the former congressman has been making headlines recently due to an investigation by the House Ethics Committee related to allegations of sexual misconduct and illicit drug use, among other claims.

After Trump's nod toward Gaetz to serve as attorney general, Gaetz resigned from Congress, effectively killing the probe and keeping him out of the jurisdiction of the House Ethics Committee, which has been wrestling with whether to release the report.

Gaetz has vehemently denied any wrongdoing.

The committee declined to release the report after meeting on Wednesday as the panel's Republicans voted against doing so, though left the potential for it to be released at a later date.

Gaetz was previously investigated by the Justice Department as part of a broader sex trafficking probe, including allegations involving an underage woman. The department ultimately decided not to pursue charges, and Gaetz has strongly denied any wrongdoing.

Gaetz's Cameo appearance takes a page out of former Rep. George Santos's (R-N.Y.) playbook, as the former New York congressman also joined the platform after he was ousted from the House last year after the House Ethics Committee released a searing report, which found that he allegedly "violated federal criminal laws" and used campaign funds for personal purposes.
