“The Brutalist,” director Brady Corbet’s epic historical drama, has an excellent score from composer Daniel Blumberg that Gold Derby currently projects will win the Academy Award for Best Score.

The full score will be released on music streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music on Dec. 10 by Sony Music Soundtracks. In the meantime, Sony has put up a 10-minute preview of the full release in the form of the three parts of “The Brutalist’s” overture, which you can stream now

In a thread on social media, Sony provided some background on Blumberg and Corbet’s collaboration. “Director Brady Corbet shot to Daniel Blumberg’s music in the film’s captivating, three-part opening sequence, which follows Jewish Hungarian architect László Tóth’s initial arrival in America following World War II,” according to the post. “Over the course of the film’s 7 year gestation period, Blumberg wrote over 2 hours of music, traveling across the UK & Europe to record the score with a cast of acclaimed musicians, including pianist John Tilbury, Axel Dörner on trumpet, Evan Parker on saxophone, and many others. The triptych culminates in the film’s visually striking opening credits sequence, propelled by the grand, rolling orchestral sweep of Daniel Blumberg’s brass and percussion-driven track ‘Overture (Bus).’”

“The Brutalist” stars Adrien Brody as fictional architect and Holocaust survivor László Tóth, who comes to America to pursue his dream of becoming a great architect and creating a better life for his family. The cast includes Felicity Jones as his wife Erzsébet and Guy Pearce as Harrison Lee Van Buren, a cruel Philadelphia industrialist who becomes László’s benefactor.

The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where Corbet won the Silver Lion for best direction. It is one of this year’s primary Oscars contenders and is likely to earn nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Screenplay for Corbet and Mona Fastvold, and Best Score, and others. It opens in theaters on Dec. 20 from A24.
