Appeals court affirms firing of former Lafayette police chief Thomas Glover

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KLFY) -- The Louisiana Court of Appeal, Third Circuit, agrees that former police chief Thomas Glover was still within a working test period when he was fired, meaning he was not entitled to any civil service due process procedures owed to a permanent employee.

In an opinion filed Wednesday, Judge Guy E. Bradberry said Glover was still within a one-year probationary period when he was fired.

"....so he could be terminated at any time before the probationary period ended, even without cause," Bradberry said in the opinion.

Glover's attorney, J. Arthur Smith III, told KLFY they will seek review by the Louisiana Supreme Court.
