11/21/2024: Steady rain for most, snow in the mountains

0

The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologists Matt Mackie and Kevin Appleby:

Finally - a good, soaking rain for the News10 Region starting today and continuing through Friday. A few spotty showers may even linger into Saturday as this huge storm system pushes through. Be careful on the roads - after a prolonged dry stretch, oil and grime that accumulates on the roads can mix with the initial rain that falls. Slippery conditions have already led to a few more crashes this morning.

As the day progresses and the rain continues to fall, temperatures will gradually fall. The Catskills and Adirondacks may see wet snow mix in with the rain. Precipitation will become mostly snow above 1500' in elevation tonight as the air gets down to around freezing, and will begin to stick and accumulate.

Less consistent, on and off rain and mountain snow showers continue through the day Friday. A few stray sprinkles and flurries are possible on Saturday, as well.

Through this period, up to a foot of snow will fall on the mountaintops of the Catskills. The towns and villages of eastern Greene and Ulster counties could with 3 to 6 inches of fresh snow. A couple inches could fall across parts of Hamilton and Essex counties in the Adirondacks, as well as the highest spots in the southern Green Mountains of Vermont. An inch or two is possible in the Albany County hilltowns and parts of Schoharie County. Many in Berkshire county will see a slushy coating. While a couple wet flakes may mix in over the Capital District, Hudson Valley, and Mohawk Valley, not much if anything will stick.

Drier with breaks of sun for Sunday, though it will be chilly and awfully windy at times. Quiet conditions are expected for most of Monday, though clouds will thicken up in the afternoon and evening.

Another round of showers will push through Tuesday, then were dry (but cold and windy!) for Wednesday.
