How Bruins Win Under Joe Sacco Felt Different To Brad Marchand

BOSTON — The Bruins are officially onto a new era under interim head coach Joe Sacco.

Boston skated away with a 1-0 shutout against the Utah Hockey Club, as Elias Lindholm ended his scoreless drought and Joonas Korpisalo turned away all 21 shots he faced to give Sacco a win in his debut as the bench boss.

Bruins captain Brad Marchand noted how important it was for Boston to capture its first win after the Original Six franchise parted ways with Jim Montgomery on Tuesday.

“I think it’s a good confidence thing, knowing that we can play the right way and it is in here and we can respond,” he told reporters after the game. “You still hate the situation that had to arise for us to respond that way.

“It was a good game tonight, but it’s one game. Our thing has been, we’ve done this before, we have a good game, and we kind of let off. So, we have to continue to build and understand the importance of having the same effort every day.”

Marchand added: “It always starts and ends in this locker room, and this team and organization is effort and compete and work ethic, and it’s in here, and we continue to build on it.”

The veteran forward added it always feels different when a team changes coaches, but what was important was the team’s mindset and approach when they hit the ice.

“Your mind is such a powerful thing, and your thought process going into a game and each shift and how you reset after each shift is so powerful in carrying you through a game,” Marchand explained. “I liked where we were at tonight, and we did a good job staying even-keeled all the way through the game.”
