Ultra-rare 1981 Porsche 911 with 3litre engine so well preserved it’s ‘as new out of the box’ on sale for huge price
AN ULTRA-RARE Porsche 911 has gone up on sale for a huge price with the flashy motor barely being driven in its 43-year life.
The beloved car has been virtually untouched since it was made in 1981 with the original owner clocking just 2,400 miles before leaving it tucked away in storage.
The black Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 SC is listed as looking like it has come “out of the box” due to its pristine condition.
The current owner purchased the car four years ago, but rarely it and has now decided that due to his age it is time to sell the car.
It is known as one of the most iconic sports cars of the past 50 years with the first ever owner purchasing it for just £20,000.
Over four decades later and the car is expected to fetch a massive amount more than that when it goes under the hammer.
The three-litre 1981 model features more horsepower than previous variations due to its high powered body and interior modifications.
The 911 make was introduced by Porsche in 1964, but it was soon blown away by the 1981 Super Carrera ‘SC’ model which proved particularly attractive and popular to car fanatics.
The original owner of the car drove around 2,400 miles in three years before he left it in storage.
It was then sold four years ago to a second hopeful driver who decided against pushing it to the limit and clocked in only an extra 390 miles.
The car is now set to be sold for a third time later this month by Humbert & Ellis Ltd in Daventry, Northants.
Jonathan Humbert, auctioneer at Humbert & Ellis, said: “To find an example of this marque with such low miles represents an incredible buying opportunity for collectors, investors and drivers alike.
“It is to all intents and purposes like a new car and with these low miles it is surely the closest anyone would get to driving such a ‘new’ car from 1981 – but 43 years later, here in 2024.
“Porsche 911s have such wide appeal – and this car will be a favourite amongst favourites.
“It can only be original once – and I would simply say – try finding another.”
The auction takes place on November 28.
It comes as a rare 1990 Porsche 911 in Egg Yolk yellow was up for grabs a few weeks ago.
The incredible 90s sports car in a unique finish featured a black leather interior, a 3.8-litre flat six-cylinder engine along with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Initial predictions said the car was expected to sell for a whopping £850K at auction.
Another super rare and iconic Porsche 911 also went up for sale last month.
The 1998 993-generation Carrera S was snapped up for over £300,000 to a lucky driver who drove away in the “one-of-a-kind” car.
History of the Porsche 911
THE legendary sports car is 61 years old and has been a firm fan favourite among motorists for decades.
A brand-new Porsche model was showcased at the 1963 Frankfurt International Motor Show which went on to be known as the first ever 911.
Full production of the car didn’t begin until a year later in September 1964 at the Porsche factory in Zuffenhausen.
When it was first made it was actually named the 901 but it was swiftly switched to the now iconic name just before the first one was ever sold.
Since then over 1.2 million of the iconic cars have been produced through eight different generations.
These include:

- G series (1974-1989)
- 964 (1988-1994)
- 993 (1993-1998)
- 996 (1997-2005)
- 997 (2004-2012)
- 991 (2011-2019)
- 992 (2018-present)
Some of the brilliant creators behind the various models include the original F.A. Porsche, Anatole Lapine, Harm Lagaay and Michael Mauer.
It has always been praised as a versatile car capable of performing both on the track and on the roads.
The fastest Porsche 911 ever made is the 2023 911 Turbo S.
It features a 650PS, 3.7-litre engine and can hit 100km/h in just 2.7 seconds.
A top speed of 330km/h is also achievable by the bravest daredevils.
