BOE11
BOE11 is a minimal home located in Berlin, Germany, designed by BATEK ARCHITEKTEN. Designed for a family of four, the 120-square-meter residence connects indoor and outdoor spaces through full-height terraces on both sides. A central corridor axis organizes the living and sleeping areas, partitioned by a solid oak structure that also features custom storage and integrates a guest bathroom. BATEK ARCHITEKTEN’s design emphasizes simplicity and quality. The main living area includes a spacious oak “room box,” partially clad in aluminum composite on the kitchen side, adding contrast to the warmth of the wood. Custom wood-backed handles repeat across cabinetry in both the kitchen and bedrooms, introducing a consistent detail.
A matte black kitchen block defines the cooking and dining spaces, providing a striking visual centerpiece. To maximize light and maintain privacy, a wall of oak frames and ribbed Estriado glass separates the study from the guest room. This design also aligns the entryway’s aesthetic with the rest of the penthouse, adding privacy while allowing natural light to filter through. Warm white surfaces on walls, ceilings, window frames, and doors create an airy, welcoming ambiance throughout. Additional design details include a steel-and-glass partition between the hallway and bathroom, handmade Zellige tiles in both bathrooms, and seamless, concrete-like flooring. The existing herringbone parquet was refinished and preserved, adding a layer of historic character. Subtle lighting choices, including recessed lighting and spotlights, enhance the serene atmosphere of the space.
