News and Notes for Thursday, November 20th, 2024

Yesterday’s Cleveland Guardians reliever related news kicked off with Eli Morgan being traded to the Chicago Cubs for Single-A center fielder Alfonsin Rosario. Quincy has the full write up on the trade here.

Some additional reports about Rosario shows that this trade has the potential to play out well for both teams.

With this trade, the 40-man roster is now at 39, leaving a spot for a free agent. Perhaps resigning a veteran starting pitcher such as Shane Bieber or Matthew Boyd?

Tarik Skubal unanimously won the AL Cy Young award, but two Cleveland relievers made the top 10 list. Closer Emmanuel Clase placed third, the highest a reliever has finished since 2008.

With one 5th place vote rookie Cade Smith even found himself with a single point in voting. It almost comically doesn’t seem like much, but when it has been 16 years since a reliever placed in the top 3 and 21 years since a reliever WON, it is impressive that rookie, non-closing reliever even managed one point.

Chris Sale took home his first Cy Young award for the NL.

Guards Insider released a great video reviewing the 2024 RubberDucks season. Its a great way to get caught up on the AA talent during the off-season.

As a reminder, the Covering the Corner staff are doing a Guardians Roster in Review series during the off-season. Quincy covered Tanner Bibee’s season in his most recent entry in the series. New articles are being posted near daily for this series, so keep an eye out for the newest review and check out the ones already posted!
