Jasprit Bumrah sets India’s record with his captaincy as he enters Border-Gavaskar Trophy

0

Before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has stated that India has no regrets over their defeat over being broken by New Zealand. From November 22 onwards, India will face Australia for a five-match Test series in Perth. India needs four victories out of these five matches in order to secure a place in the World Test Championship finals.

At the pre-match news conference before the first Test in Perth, Bumrah put light on the unique features of the game. Regardless if the team wins or loses the previous day, the team starts every new day from scratch.

Even if you win, you start from 0. If you lose, you start from 0. That’s the beauty of cricket. Obviously, when we won the World Cup, it didn’t mean we would become complacent in other series. That’s how I am looking at. Obviously, we were disappointed and down that we had a tough series last time. But, we are not carrying any baggage. We come with a fresh mindset, and different opposition. And we come to learn from the changes that have happened in the team. We are not carrying any baggage from India. We are trying to be positive and play good cricket,” Bumrah said in the pre-match press conference.

The absence of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma in the first Test will make things much difficult for the Indian squad. ‘Gill fractured his thumb during practice before the first Test, whereas Rohit is on paternity leave. For the first time in an India vs Australia match, fast bowlers will captain both teams in the opening Test match.
